Bye-bye babies - Thursday, April 7th (redux)

And for the same reasons as Janie's departure, so Sashi and her lovely five kittens have also moved on to a new foster home.  I never could tell the boys apart (except by weight).  The girls will be gorgeous cats.  Hopefully, I'll get to see them one more time before they get adopted.

Since Sashi and her sons all suffer from being 'black cats', they will probably be guests of the shelter for a while.  Sashi is a real love-bug and will be great for anyone wanting a quiet lap cat.  The boys may get a break at the Kitten & Puppy Shower event in May.  More on that later.

Here's some good-bye pictures of the crew:
OK everyone line up!

Meet the new kids - Monday, March 21, 2011

So, we let the hissy mom have a quiet night with the kids in her new room.  The lovely all-black Sashi - she's funny.  Must be the hormones 'cuz she can't tell what mood she's in.  She comes up to me seeking attention, she loves pets, chin-scratches, head-rubs, and has the elevator-butt going, but if you stop - HISS!  She's still figuring things out.  I think she kinda wants to be a lap cat.

While she's working that out, here's the intros to the new kids on the block:

Cricket, male, 8.1oz

Duffy, female, 7.9oz

Earl, male, 7.6oz

Mia, female, 9.0oz

Topper, male, 8.3oz

Can you find 3 boys up front?

Hissy mom - Sunday, March 20th

Rained out at Pet Days today, but got to spend some time with all my fosters.  Here's the current count:  2 moms, 9 kittens, separate nurseries, and a very confused Cotton sniffing at both doors.

Sashi, the new mom, seems to know only one vocalization - hissing.  She's not mad or mean; that just seems to be her only way to communicate right now.  She's hissing at me as she reaches up for head-butts and chin scratches.  She's purring (but not as loudly as Janie).  She's taking good care of the littles.

She's a Third Chance cat rescued by our shelter from a more overcrowed facility.  Lucky girl.

Her litter has 3 boys (all black) - Topper, Cricket, and Earl.  Can't tell them apart.  2 of them are just starting to open their eyes.  Also part of the gang are two beautiful girls - Mia, a little siamese and Duffy, a dilute brown tabby with what might be an agouti coat.  They're all just little balls of fluff right now.  Everyone is healthy.

So, there will be NINE little kittens growing up around here for at least the next three weeks.  Stay tuned.  New pictures of everyone tomorrow.

New mom & 5 kittens - Saturday, March 19th

After a long day at OC Pet Days,  went to the shelter & picked up a new Third-Chance foster mom-cat and her 5 little kittens (probably 4-5 days old).  3 boys, 2 girls.

Sashi (mom) is all black and a little scared but nice enough to let me pull her from the carrier & set her and the kids up in a nice room of their own.

I'll let them settle in before we try to take pictures.  Besides, I'm beat from standing on the asphalt all day.  Whew!
